One of the most harmful disease that ails all large and increasingly small companies is the faith in HR fad of teamwork.
Companies spend tons and tons of money on holding teambuilding workshops and paying consultants who really make fool out of the managers and workers alike. They make you play stupid games like pulling a wire, god & bone, sharing intimate details about each other. Imagine the stupidity of asking grown up mature guys to share their fantasies, dreams, fear, one got to be a dumbass to really believe that anyone will expose themselves. So managers and workers alike use this opportunities to create the kind of image they wish to create for themselves.
Large corporations really make people is figuring out the mask that make them get ahead.
HR is the most insecure and damaging function that ever was created. They label people and write the obituaries of many careers and kill people in real sense.
Ok, what is the field where teamwork is a must and one is completely dependent o others for their survival?
Its Army.
In a war, success of one means nothing, either all wins or all losses.
Do they have a HR function in army?
Never.
Are they talking of creating a HR department in Army?
No.
That says it.
Team work automatically happens where each one on the team brings unique and complementary skill so that collective success happens through the contribution of each individual in the team.
People being mature, they work with other where their success is dependent on contribution of each in the team and they work together even if they don't like each other.
Its a problem that a big company have too many managers and hence most of the time there will be people bringing similar skills and competencies on the table and hence chase the same pie and we see issues which are used by HR to creat artificial work for themselves in enhancing teamwork.
Form the team right, the teamwork will follow definitely.
I dont have to either sleep or love someone to deliver fantastic results so long I know I cannt deliver without the other person delivering his share.
Welcome all comments and criticism to this view of mine. This got formed over the period of my 12 years of working life with a large MNC who has a large HR function and have got any meaningful growth over last several years.
Also, why in large corporations, most of the time quality of delivery of projects are mediocre at the most?

Sure Shot Viral Marketing
As I work on a proposal on how to create a viral marketing strategy for Innocentive which brings solvers and seekers together for a mutually beneficial knowledge transaction in the areas of chemical, physical, biological and business solutions, I thought of distilling all that is known and all that has been said and here are my conclusions.
1. If viral marketing is an after thought to your communication strategy, you are better of not doing it. It requires right rigour to develop and execute any successful viral marketing campaign.
2. Viral marketing is the most cost effective way to generate trials and penetration.
3. But make sure that you have something really really good to sell since a bad product/site would bring bad publicity quite fast before you could rework and improve your product.
4. It is intuitive and it would work if you could keep it simple and easy to execute.
5. It must offer something free which is worthwhile for people to feel motivated to spread it. Its critical to know no one is philanthropic to something which might create wealth for others as in business. The offer of something free should be hassle free and ideally not linked to spending money to get it. Most of the times offers of discount aren't forwarded since its seen as a ploy to make people buy something not that valuable. If you believed your product is worth something, why offer discount?
Offering something worthy free to spread you message is the critical component to any successful viral marketing campaign.
6. Creat a fun, interactive, creative, useful, missionary component is the advertisement you want to spread. These are the things that are generally shared by one with his near and dear ones, collegues, friends.
7. Be truthful. Never over promise and under deliver, if at all, just do the reverse. This will ensure that no will be disappointed and creat a bad vibration for your product/site.
Hotmail is acknowledged to be one of the most successful example of viral marketing and it reflected each of the points articulated above.
I work in the technical function but work closely with marketing and brand development colleagues and I believe it helps me with unique perspective to understand how brand communications get translated into enhancement in SOVs and real sales.

Wake Up India
Its a pity that Indian Government is allowing Car manufacturers to promote selling car without any clause on improving the environment attached.
This when,
The car density in all the metro cities are going up and roads are finite by any standard. This leads to wastage of time and energy on load, pollution, ailment for the children and the old.
Fuel subsidy takes away most of the money we pay as tax which could be better used to improve education, sanitation, health, lives of the poor in particular.
The global warming is a reality.
Yet,there is no sign of anyone, be the government, be the car manufacturers, be the society leader, waking up and saying enough is enough, we should limit the usage of the private cars.
What is the tangible solution is not unknown to anyone. One doesnt have to look any further than to Singapore to undertsand the beautiful model they have so successfully developed and employed with resounding success.
I hate Ratan Tata for driving the development of cars for low income consumers. It will not only chock the roads of India, the amount of polution it would lead to is unimaginable. Offocurse, Mr. Ratan tata, you would say that you are creating jobs for people while doing so. Yes, it s a job they will have that would kill their children.
We dont need industrialists like you in India.
There are many better ways of creating jobs which do good for all.
Hope someone powerful would undertsand the pain articulated in the article and help propagate it further.

Progress of Shenna
Shenna now amages us by sleeping Carbon, Helmet, Manish, Dona! We have been trying to teach him these last 3-4months and this fast progress makes us quite happy. He has also learrt additions of one and two.
He loves this season in Manila for the gifts galore that comes our way.
He is a sudden soccer enthusiast last couple of days. We got his mid year progress report and I commented tat he need to improve his sporting skill and we should play soccer together. He eagerly chase me to go and practice soccer with him now. I in the process, am getting so good expercise.
Yesterday,I thanked him and said, ' thanks Shenna, for giving me some good expercise'.
Shenna:' I too got some expercise, in addition, got some skill too!'
Such is the lovely boy he is.
We are still worried about money. We are chasing the egg nest that would make our future secure and it looks so far away. But we are getting there.
We are positive of achieveing this goal we have set for ourself.
We wonder if we will settle in singapore. We dont have any reason to believe it other than our thoughts that it may be a good place to settle and live life peacefully.
I desparately need to crack few problems in Innocentive.
