World prayer day

My heart, my body, my soul is crying in sadness, in anger, in frustration from what happend to our city Mumbai! A nation with huge hetirage and socalled wisdom, has lost the zeal, courage and will to protect itself, its citizen, it soil.

India has lost its way since indepences. Often I feel so very pessimistic, given the kind of people we have running the nation. The curruption, the lethergy, the utter lack of self respect is appalling!

We bitterly complain about incompetence of our police force. Today, I feel sad for them and pity them. They arent paid well, they are used to raid the dancebars, how can they stand agaist fanatical guys driven by hateful ideology with a death wish?

The road repair work in Mumbai goes on yearround, every year. Contractors and politician perform special gyana for moonsoon so they can continue the road repair as their means of sustainace. That money could be used to resource so many constructive endeavours.

Can go on and on.

Yet, Indians are mostly great at individual level and I tell myself not to loose faith. Modern India is chaotic and lulled like a sleeping giant. All it takes moment when it will resolve to coming of the stuper and find its place on the sun.

I believe in life, I believe in destiny, I believe in victory of good over evil. We shall overcome.

There is enormous power in prayer, time for us to galvanise and have prayers around the world on a day, at the same time allover the globe, to say, let sanity prevail, let live suceed over evil.

Baking and Grilling- Our new interests

We have been regulars at the French Bakery at Landmarks and may be all these trips ignited a desire in us to explore and learn more on making and grilling.

Shenna loves it and that truely is the inspiration.

Also, baking and grilling help in minimising the oil used, we can cook the fish and meat using the oil in them!

Also, cooking is fast and hassle free, doent require too much personal attention once the stuff is put in the oven.

Thus, one sunday morning, about a month back we started the jouney.

I did some research on the net and went on to make Chiken Ala king. It came out decent enough so that we got more confidence to continue experimenting and exploring.

Can now say that we love the Chiken ala kind we make at our home from the day we started using Chiken stock for the white sauce, there's no sustitute for it.

The Chiken in the Chiken ala king can be replaced with vegetables and it becomes vegetable in white sauce, equally delightfull to savour.

We have also baked sweet potato with black pepper and olive oil, tasted quite nice as a snack.

Grill mushrooms with balsamic vinegar, black pepper and salt, make the dish with some onion and cucumber and you have what we call grilled mushroom salad. Shenna polished off the full plate we made and that told us that we got his seal of approval!

We have got enough confidence to try a greek dish of grilled sole fish. We marinated the sole fish with garlic, salt, pepper and lime. The added some olive oil and parley to it and grilled at 190oC for about two minutes. It tasted nice and Dons loved it. Im still not completely happy about it and wanted to do it again with some dil, it needed to be spiced up some more.

Pity, forgot to take the pictures!

Well, we will make mushroom and eggplant in tomato sauce today evening. Again, have done research but I have few variations in mind.

Watch this space!

A huge milestone

As all parents of six year old kids will know, teaching them is mostly not very easy!

Shenna yesterday for the firstime did multiplications like 33*2, 18*2, 50*2 and 100*3, all correctly. Dona has taught him and I felt so proud. He too seemed very pleased with himself.

This is specially commendable since the level of maths in his school is far from what would have made us happy, they havent done bit complex addtions and substractions!

We are quite happy with his English language skills, he now love to read and write!

We must say that we are very thankful that we are sending him to Kumon and whereever we go next, we hope that we find Kumon there. Yeah, doing Kumon requires lot of patience and never easy but theres lot of benefit if its done.

Recession Is Here But You got to Keep Faith!

The world seems to be crumbling down!

One industry after another in US is seeking tax payers money to bail them out! Its a classic case of everyone paying for someone greed, stupidy and sin!

Bailout is happening in US as well.

Oil is down but inflation isnt!

The first signs of trouble in Asia have emerged from its stronger economies- Japan, Singapore, China.

I believe the true story will play out in Asia by middle of next year.

Most of us born much after 1929, the last big recession, dont have a reference point to understand this.

Is all lost?

Our share portfolio value has halved.
The flat we have in Mumbai would have a lower price for sometimes.
Rupee is down.

Its a tango of currency, gold, property and shares.

Tempted to call it a zero sum game, at this when time is bad. But thats a really huge blessing if thats so!

I believe not, we hope not.

We are now caught in the downturn of the economic cycle and this (hopefully) will aos pass.

My prediction is but the end of next year we will begin the reverse jounrey!
That is the time one should buy a flat and start buying shares. Till then, may be a good idea to buy gold.

Since people horde gold, its unlikely to devalue to any significant level for any significant time.

Im no expert, what Im saying is based on the little I have learnt dabbling in these things.

Ok, never trust any expert with you money is the solid believe that has got reinforced for me. There we allsort of experts predicting massive levels for all the indices and now wonder where are the hiding and what are they doing?

Above all, believe one has got one life to live and make sure every moment is lived to the fullest with complete committment and honesty.

Good days are not that far away!

Palawan trip Atlast

Sunrise from top of Mount Tapasya!

Deep Sea Snokrelling!
See the small gap? Swim through it to go to the other part of ther lagoon!

Beautiful!

The airport!

The travellers!

Shenna loved the flight ride!

We always knew that we will make a trip to palawan before we leave Philippines and we did this trip during 1-3rd Nov, during Shenna Halloween break.

We took cebu pacific flight from manila to Basunga. It took us 45 minutes. Basunga indeed is Island, no throughly commercialised like Boracay. Very green, very undeveloped, still with lot of easy, charming time wrapped languid way of life.
The ride from the airport (more like a patch for landing really) to main coron city took about an hour since its mosting through half done roads. Unlike halfdone cakes, which are completely useless, one can use half done roads in Philippines, thanks to God's small mercies!
We stayed at Village Lodge. We willnt stay there again. Thought dont mind going to their restaurant again which was rather nice with lot of local touches.

After lunch with totato salad and grilled fish, we took a tricycle to the pier where our boat was awaiting for us. Our first stop was to the famous lake where we did some swimming and then we went to the famed hotspring. The sun was on the west side and wether was nice. Thus, the hot water from the spring wasd very pleasurable. The we went to another beach. There are not too many nice beaches (its rather small patches no more than 20ft long and 20 ft depth) in this part of Coron unless one was staying at Club Paradise, our pocket didnt permit that!). We did lot of snokrelling and even with naked eyes, we could seee lot of fish, unafraid of our intrusions!

We came back to the the city when it was dark. Coron city is not much of city and sleeps rather early unless one was looking for Videokee kind of entertainment!
Early next morning, we went trekked to Mount Tapasya for watching the sunrise! It was awesome and even Shenna walked up 753 steps to the top. I repeated it next day as well!
We spent whole of next day in a boat going to have a look at the4 shipwreck, deep see snokrelling, twin lagoon, another lake and lot of sun!
We flew back with Cebu pacific with a promise to ourselves that we will have to make another trip to Palawan and stay with Elnido to have complete Palawan experience.
Will add more pictures, So watch out!

Barak Obama's election-A NRI perspective

Few days back, history was made in in America- a black (though not black enought- a mutt less) president was elected as the most powerful man in america and by default in the world.

I rooted for him and felt happy when he was elected, a much family man, in love with his wife and kids, a great talking, inspiring guy.

He is a destinites child. It is just not possible otherwise for someone like him- a son of an afircan father who left his whiten mother, no political backgrowund whatsoever, a Hosain for his middle name, no real accomplishment in life- the world, the supreme force and the destiny conspired to make him president.

And the stage is set for him so very suberbly, yet with such great challenge!

In another time, he could really bask in the glory of his election win and spend the four or eight years the way Bush, Bill has spent!

Actually, he is set up for failure. His challenges:

1. The economic crisis is enormous and no one has a clear answer to whats the solution. Worse, such a gigantic problem and no one anywhere saw it coming! Greed ruled over prudence, honest, rightousness. Drastic spets are being taken and if they fail, world will spriral into deeper and deeper recession.

2. Oil si behaving its widest eratic way playing havoc with inflation and monitary policies of countries, specially the developing countries.

3. Deep pockets of social, political and terrorist uprise and chaos in Afganistan, Iraq, Pakistan, potentially in Iran and North Korea.

4. Lack of social drive for American and european mass to achive economic freedom and growth. Hardworking american is just than, a word, euphemism. Social security in Europe helps provide a quality of life same as the one slogging his butts of day in day out.

5. World is in peril, much more than is reconised. Last five years, we have had more environm, ental caqlamities, several even in america than ever. Yet, drive for consumerism, cam manufacturing etc shows no sign of restrain.

6. Polulation is growing rapidly, as a percentage is maynt look alarning but the numbers are huge, brienging stress on food, infrastructure, everything.

7. Region are becoming more bigotery everyday. The age old notion of religious suprimacy is not blunted even in today world. The real meaning of religion is not understood and vested interest play havoc with lives of million of people around the world. The world doesnt have sanity.

8. Apart from all these, there are internal american issues like health care etc which are global issues as well.

9. He got elected on a platform of change. Yet, we all know, change doesnt happen overnight. But being an ambitious man, he will want to make examples of change and there is great risk in doing msking change in hast with half cooked cocked up ideas.

The job is cut well cut out.

What would you have done if you were Barak Obama?!
