Summer Holiday Decision - 2017

Our son will be going to grade X this august and earlier we felt that we will do a short holiday in India during the school holidays in June-July since we felt he has to do an internship and also some charity. Since it is not ideal time to holiday in June-July given the heat and or rain in many parts of India, we started talking about going abroad. We have lived in Bangkok for three years and that’s out default holiday destination but we wanted to go new place since that is what make a holiday memorable and bring us alive, refreshed. Our son wanted to do adventure and was keen to go for Everest base camp but I felt we are late to start preparing for this arduous journey. I wanted to go to China to see the great wall and bath in the history of this great nation but the cost is high and also given that is likely to be populous country, we expected places of interest to be crowed and also given the language barrier, we were hesitant to do our holiday all by ourselves. We discussed Europe but we have been there last year and the recent political events have made drop this idea. We wanted to do UA but it requires lot of preparations and it is now late if we have to do the trip in June or July. Being interested in Haiku, Sushi, Zen philosophy, I have been toying with the idea of doing Japan. Family was not that keen since their mind was set of US or Europe till yesterday I asked my son if he wanted to climb Mount Fuji, while doing some research on Japan online. He got all excited and we did some research. It appeared it is daunting enough but not an impossible endeavor to scale Mount Fuji. It is charming. As 3776meter of height and given unpredictable weather, it promises to be a memorable feat. It also helped that we love to gorge on Shushi, Tempura and very fond of bento boxes. Also, many places in Japan can be covered on train and places like Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima have enough history and allure to entice us to decide to make the holiday in Japan this summer. We precisely have about two months to plan the visit. Its rush against time to book the flights, hotels at the best possible price. It is my feeling that not many Indians visit Japan on Holiday and hence we are not likely to get much required tips from friends and family. This means we will be spending many hours online researching how to could soak in as much of Japan as possible in two weeks. We want to have an authentic Japanese experience which means we will have to figure out where to stay, where to eat and what we must see and experience in the very limited time that we have.
