Sanju is watchable in the mould of hindi commercial cinema and that's all that is there for the time one spends watching it. It leaves you with only one clear idea that Sanjay Dutt is loved by Rajkumar Hirani and others enough to give him a platform to shape the public perception in favour of him again. Does it succeed? I came back more convinced that he has sins, he is corrupt and connected enough to attempt to whitewash his life and try to be a messiah to the masses.
Sanjay Dutt's life is a story of drugs, drinks, womanizing, dalliance is underworld. But he never did any of these on his won. In his youth he was vulnerable trying impossibly to shine in the shadows of successful parents. You see he was vulnerable and a so call friend conned the trusting and gullible him to indulge in drugs.
He insults the girl he wanted to marry and her parents repeatedly- no explanation is provided apart from the fact it was not him, but the drugs doing all these.
He is caught with a AK47. Poor guy was not to be blamed!! He adored his public serving father and feared for his safety. He was afraid of the underworld but to protect his father, he used those connections to procure the guns. He kept it in the dicky of his car and in the room while he roamed the world screwing girlfriends of his friends and doing acting. In his now drug free mind, it was enough to keep the gun hidden in his bed room to protect his dad.
That he was book under TADA was some error on the part of the system. He was very well connected all the way to the government but no one was willing to help him- but it was they lack of spine for which they failed to help him as he tried using his connections.
Sanju says the Kalpesh is one of the two god in his life. So he ensure that Kalpesh's girl friend is committed to him. He screws her and saves his friend from her who is without values.
Sanju and Hirani has major issues with journalists. Journalists are to be blamed to falsify his immaculate character and paint it in bad light to increase the circulation of the publication. So, in utter bad taste, they end the movie with a song throwing dirt at them.
That he lack his worth ethics and lies through his teeth is something painted as endearing. His father know the perfect solution to cure it and build work ethics by ensuring he listen to 2-3 songs for a month each. This is the most powerful parenting lesion ever.
It is a shallow film about shallow shallow Sanjay Dutt by Hirani having shallow opinion about Indian paying public.
I suspect Hirani in doing the movie has ensured that his career will be sustained for long time.
Next Movie- Salman. Its soccer season and we all know how players jump and dive at the feet of other players to win penalties and glory. The poor sleeping on the pavement was playing soccer in their dreams and dived under the car driven by Salman. The ducks were suicidal as they were struggling with their hormones. Hence, while Salman was shooting in the air to ensure some factory making bullets doesn't get closed due to lack of sales - they dived at the path of the bullets to die! He screws to check if the actress is virgin so he can marry and yet to find one.
In a world full of rich well connected, immoral Sanju's- Hirani will not run out of work whitewashing their nefarious activities.
