3rd April, 2011

Its a historic day for winning the Cricket World cup for the second time today, that too after long 28 years.

It was in 1983 for the first time and it was seen as a flash in the pan by many. It was also helped by the weather in Lords those days which helped the Indian seemers claim many a scalps. India wasnt the favorite to win the game and ven in the final, many including myself didnt believe that India could win. Thats because India scored just 183 and with that kind of score, one couldnt expect to win against West Indies. I used to live in Kolkata then and distinctly remeber that glorious life.

But India did.

This time, India was tested against most of the good team and they had to beat Pakistan to enter the final. The game in the final was kind of boring. Srilanka scored a decent 274 and India showed signs of history repeating itself when they lost two quick winckets. However, this Indian team is different and they steadied the score and went on to win the match. Dhoni proved the possible sign of a different emerging India who is ambitious, confident and relish being the limelight when he scored a massive six to seal the game.

And India did it with a stamp of authority, confidence and nonchalence.

Yes, India can earn its right under the sun in coming years.

The moment is very pure for the country. We hope that politicians will take cue from this moment and steer the country that would be free from nepotism, curruption and anything unholy.

Felt bad for Sachin that he couldnt score the ton that the nation hoped he would make but he cried when India won and everyone was delighted for him too. There are very few famous people who is spotless and Sachin is one of those rare solid guys. He indeed galvanised the team to make the win possible.

Shrihaan, being eight, having grown up out of India since he was just four year old, missed the significance of the match and was asking us why we had to stay up late to watch the game when we could always watch the results later. He always found it boring a game where one player bowls and another player tries to hit the ball with a bat. If we go back in India, am sure he would come to learn and love this game for this is the national passtime and one wouldnt have anything to talk about if he is not conversant in this game.

India deserves this. Let India march on to greater glory.

A word of appreciation for the site but for which we wouldnt have been able to watch every moment of the game stting far in Bangkok and enjoy every moment of the game. We watched apnatvlive.com for sometimes which got blocked at the interval and after some quick search we found Masticricket.com which was even better. And both these were discovered by Dona, she is good wih these stuff indeed.

We missed being in Mumbai.
