I came back to live in Mumbai after slightly more than six years. What are my first impressions?
1. It still appearing to be crubling under the massive weight of the people living and strggling in the city. No significant change in infrastrcuture is visible. The dirt and filth are still there where we last saw half a decade ago!
2. Few good malls have come up. However, these arent the malls where one can spend the entire day, weekend after weekend. Its crowded and mostly shops. The shows, the varieties of malls in SEA are missing.
3. Its more cut throat now and people in general are more humourless.
4. The cost of everything had gone up massively.
5. Fraud is happening everywhere, every interaction needs to be guarded. In the airport prepaid taxi, i was charged Rs. 290, after coming back home when I added, it added up to only Rs. 260! Also, my nephew came to the same place in a seaprate taxi after couple of days and he was charged Rs. 340!
6. I booked a socalled massage from Kerala Aurveyda Centre from Groupon. I was led to a nondescriptive room inside a park with no signboad and just two cubicles inside. When I enquired if it was indeed Kerala Aurveyda Centre, the guy with a straight face said, 'yes, it is, Im from Kerala!' Its a fraud being done under the nose of everyone. One is not supposed to run a commercial venture from a room inside a park in the first place!
7. I was provided with a company car which is charged garage to garage. I didnt mention the time while relasing the car around 7pm few days and found the driver loitering till11pm. Once I started mentioned time, he would disappear promptly.
8. The food appears to me to be too cooked, too piecy and Im missing the healthy food of Thailand and Dona!
9. Do see bit more foreigners who are living in Mumbai, specially in Goregaow, Juhu and Bandra area. What is amusing and sad is that, inorder not to invite attention, they have adopted the shapeless, nondescriptive dresses and one would allmost miss them as foreigners!
So far feeling very disappointed after coming back to Mumbai. I do hope the experiences will improve and we will find our roots else will get good opprtunities to go find home in another place.
