Durga Puja in Bangkok

Bengalees residing in any corner on this earth would feel sad and nostalgic about Kolkata and bengal around this time of the year when the Durga puja is celebrated with passion, devotion and a sense of bliss like nowhere else.

The state would practically shut down these four days and everyone, have and have nots would be transported to a magical world.

It is celebrated by Bharti in Bangkok. The venue is Indo thai chamber of commerce in Silom. Being there yesterday night, offering prayers, talking in bengali with newly introduced people like we know them for years, eating the sinful fries, watching the dance perfomed by children so young that they faltered with a smile of innocence made us feel like we were at home.

If we were in Kolkata, the dinner would have been Biriyani or rolls. Being away and moving around like urban gypsies, we had dinner on rovoli, spaghatti carbonara and a steak. Living and fusion expressed in everyday mundane occourances.

Its holiday for Shrihaan and such a pity that I would be travelling most part of it.

Our adult mind thinks that we should give him lot of exposure, make him experience different things so we travel, go to different restaurants. Yet, we realise all he wants is stay at home, watch his cartoons, play with cars and lego and have good food from the restaurant at our place, delivered home hot.

Manila comes in our thoughts in many different times in many different context. Shrihaan suddenly said he misses the 'white candies' used to get from Red Ribbon in Manila. Need to travel to Manila sometimes to soon to bring back bits of taste of Manila back to Bangkok.
