Humanity

Very disturbing news emanates regularly from Afganistan about the sickening loss of lives of aid workers at the hand of Godless people who kill in the name of God.

While on the trademill today evening, I swtiched on the BBC and the news was about the latest such episode. My Vietnamese friend on the next trademill, smiles and say, ' every one knows, its so dangerous there, why does they go?'

Yes, why does they go? Do they believe that they have special protection while they see many to perish? Why dont their friends and relatives prevent them from going their? These are selfless at of goodness in a foreignland the signficant of which is beyound the ruthless people with no future.

At one level it seems like studpidity. But beyound it, these are people who are flagbearers of humanity. Knowing the obviou danger, they dont hesitate to risk their lives so as not to abandon the distressed people in far off lands to their doomed fate. They are the people who makes the difference to the human history and they are the people who through their supreme sacrifice keeps the fire of faith nurtured.

Is there God? I believe yet many a times the believe falters. Many of our wishes comes true and we see signs of His omnipotent presence yet there is no explanation of seemingly victory of evil over good, the evil acts that goes unpunished, the faithful that pays.

Yet, people through their sacrifices declare that the humanity on earth still have future and life is something worth celebrating.

But at some level their act are selfish too for the people left behind would pay throughout their lives thinking if only they could prevent them from going to those dangerous places. That is a terrible feeling that eats into the bones slowly but inevitably.

Prayers for Mercy.
