Hotel Awana Porto Malai Langkawi Review

A planned potential perfect holiday can be spoint by a bad choice of Hotel and our choice of statying in Awana Porto Malai in Lankawai taught us that. It was a bad choice in several respect.

The hotel site shows picture of a beach which to us indicated it to be on a beach. No, it was not. The beach is good 15 mins taxi ride away and cost $4 every ride. Why would we go to Lankawai if we will not stay in a beach resort? We made the mistake by seeing the picture of the beach shown.

The hotel looked forlorn and in a state of decay. It is located in a out of no where place. The harbour view was good-that was the only good thing we found in this place.

The pool had three polythene packs floating around in it.

The passage and the bathroom has stale smell and other issues like drain clogging. The towels were old and had stains.

There is no restaurants around the hotel and so we were forced to eat in the over-priced hotel restaurant. The bill came and was followed up even before the food was served-it took several follow up for the food to come. The food was horrible and had a dinstint taste of being tin food!

Our tours from it travel desk was a riff off. We didnt have much time so we booked in good faith and lather found they have taken double of what would be a price anywhere else for day tours. We confronted them only to be told that we made the choice which was right and left us with a distinct feeling of beeing fooled!

The staffs were grumpy, ill mannered and not at all helpful. I got the feeling that if we asked them to smile, they would have asked for some $s!!

It didnt have free wifi and we bought wifi for one hour. I used it for 20mins and thought would use the remianing later. When tried later, it said the I had to buy again. I asked the frontdesk and they said it was for single login!! We have travelled a lot and this was our first such bad experience.

Overall, it was not worth paying what we paid and stay their. It was not only wastage of money but most importantly this hotel spoilt what was to be our pefect holiday.

We had booked through Agodaa and gave a review mentioning all these and they didnt publish. It is how customer feedback is managed-I learnt first hand from this experience though have always suspected so.

We will go back to Lankawai again but will stay away from this money sucking place.

I thought of sharing it so others dont make the mistake of staying at Awana Porto Malai hotel in Lankawi.

This hotels are best for those who wish to spend as less as possible. The rooms usually have essential facilities like a table, bed and washing services. Mostly you would find that these hotels have common toilets. Thanks for sharing.

We paid 300USD for two nights- not exactly cheap speecially for a hotel like this. It was damn expensive for the value it delivered.
