One of the risk one takes when tagging along with friends for a visit to London is to reach Lords cricket ground firstthing after getting out of London tube. That was because the person who booked the train tickets happen to be a umpire in Mumbai and it must have been his pilgrimage! Fortunately the tour was to happen in another couple of hours and so a taxi took us straight to London eye.
I dont fancy travelling much without my travel companions and hence though was going aorund with these friends from Mumbai, three wide eye fisrt timers to UK, back in my mind there was always a murmur that I will come back again with Dona and Shennu for our planned euro trip someday soon. It was another matter that realisation also was dawning back in my mind in the same place that it is costly to holiday in EU and it would set us back by atleast $500 each day and that hell lot of money.
Brits value their history. Hence, the cruise over Thames was accompanied by running commentary of the history and grandour of the buildings on either side of her banks, same was there when we took the cruise on Mersey river.
Only in UK, I could meet a cab driver who would say that he is into history and rattle off details of some of the background of Liverpool with enthusism and also tell me the story of Calcutta's maritime history on being told that Calcutta is my hometown.
The Ben Ben seemed historic and may be because of that some of the decisions being taken there today are so distant from reality. With changing time, we have to adapt our abode else we can get wrapped in past.
