Sleep and Wellness

I have always slept well when I was young. Then came the pressures for exams and started compromising on sleep. Then came the job and climbing the ladder. Issues related work, colleagues, promotions, parties started taking it tolls. Simultaneously marriage happened, child came and peace reigned in the intervals. Son growing up and pressure on his performance got added to the plethora reasons for to loose bit of sleep. Having thoriod also didn't help. Offlate been feeling tired all day, often go to bed and comeout only to fall asleep by 3am or so on the sofa!
So got my interest in what it to sleep well and why is it important. Research ensured and these are my finding:
1. Sleep is critical for body t recover, recharge and get ready for the living ahead. A minimum of 6-8hr of sleep daily is required and it varies from person to person. One will know if he has sleep well if he wakes up refreshed and ready for the day. Its not necessary to get all the daily sleep required in one go. If one if sleep deprived, his well bring is affected and he will perform sub optimally.
2. Not being able to sleep for days, having broken sleep often and medical symptoms of something not right and one should consult doctor as soon as possible
3. One should prepare to sleep. He should abstain from watching television, reading mails or anything that can excite him. The room should be dark, can have light music and ideal to read a book or meditate, think of the happy memories to be able to fall asleep and have a sound sleep.
4. Food do play a role in having the right level of sleep. Minerals like Calcium and certain proteins that can be found in fish, lentins, spinach, fruits are known to have positive effect on sleep.
5. A certain level of exercise is required to be able to sleep well. It is not only required for the body to be mentally tired, physically also it needs to be tired. Best is exercise in the morning.
6. There is deep sleep and light phase of sleep. We dream through out the night but we tend to remember the dreams we saw in the morning since we tend to have light sleep in the morning.
7. Best to go to bed by 11pm and get up by six when adequate sunlight permeates the room.
8. Snorning is a medical condition and sleeping sidewise or turning when too muh snorning is happening is provides relief. There are equipments available which are known to provide relief.
I practice some of these tips and indeed sleep better. Hope you do too. If any more help is required, please be in touch since I have lot of practical advices and resources available to be shared.
